Long time Ankeny Rotarian, Mike Lydon, passed away on December 28, 2022. His celebration of life was delayed until June 21, 2023, which would have been his 80th birthday. The services for Mike will be at 2:00 PM at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, Iowa. The cemetery asks that guests do not arrive prior to 1:45 pm and you stay in your car outside the Administrative office. A VA staff person will lead the way (via cars) to the Shelter where the service will be held.
The service will consist of the folding of a flag, some speakers, gun salute, and a bag piper. After about 15 minutes, Mike’s remains will be transferred to his grave and a VA staff person will guide us to his grave where flowers from his home will be laid on his grave. Immediately following the committal service, there will be a reception, with refreshments, at the Veterans Reception Center, 910 Main St., Van Meter, Iowa.
The Rotary Club of Ankeny has made a contribution to a bench that will be at the cemetery and will have a plaque on it stating:
