The Evening Rotary Club of Ankeny completed a service project on Thursday, August 31st by preparing meals for Meals from the Heartland.   During the evening the group prepared and boxed approximately 500 meals. Each meal contains rice, soy protein, minerals and dried vegetables.  These meals will be distributed globally, most commonly to orphanages and schools.  Oftentimes, children in developing area will only eat one meal a day and when these meals are distributed at school it ensures they get nutrition and an education.  A total of 4,525,200 were packaged by volunteers during the week which put Meals from the Heartland over 100 million meals packaged since they held their first "Hunger Fight" in 2008.
